"I'm shakin' the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I'm gonna see the world."

Okay, so unlike George Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life, I don't actually hate my home city; in fact, I love Houston. (I plan to retire here!) But, I am currently sitting in the airport about to embark on the first leg of my journey which will ultimately take me over 5,000 miles from my place of birth.

It felt a little surreal on the drive over, but it really hit me when I had to say goodbye to my parents... The TSA person that checked my boarding pass and passport was concerned because I was crying, and I told her I wouldn't see my family until July, to which she replied, "Don't worry, it'll be here before you know it." So true! Part of me wishes I could fast forward to 10 months from now, but that's probably not the best attitude to have. Although, I really do miss America already even though I haven't officially left the country yet.

Anyway, I would post a photo of myself waiting here at the gate, but I'm such a mess. Not only did I get just two hours of sleep, but I'm all tearful and such, so it really wouldn't be flattering. (HZ, if you're reading this, sorry, but no "before and after" for me!)

Alas, here's hoping my travels are safe and not too stressful! ^_^ Adios Tejas!

  1. !!! So you (basically) did do that thing where you stayed up all night so you'd be sleepy on the plane. Even if you didn't do it purposely...

  2. Perhaps. Although I honestly can't think of a single plane ride in my life when I haven't fallen asleep... Even those 50 minute ones I doze off, even if I get a good amount of sleep the night before, lol
