I was just watching the local Madrid news and they were interviewing some man who owns a jewelry store. He was robbed, and his sound bite was: "I didn't think I lived in Texas where people go around shooting each other." How rude and ignorant! :x

Ugh. But don't try to take it too personally. It really is all from what they watch on T.V. and hear from word of mouth, as I'm sure he never experienced Texas for himself and associates it to old western movies or something. Today, I was kind of playing soccer with little local boys, and there were three of us Americans. As the one who understood the most spanish, I would translate a lot, and they once asked "Did you see the twin towers fall?" I said no, only on T.V. then it was awkward for a sec and they just started giggling. I asked why they laughed, and they kind of ignored it and laughed more, but I think it's because it is something i've noticed they do when there's any silence and they don't know what to say, and they were all less than 10 years old, so probably their version of the event is a mere comical crash of some buildings rather than what it was in reality...
